"I believe in creating a fun and challenging environment where players can thrive. If I am not out at the soccer field, you can find me spending time with my two little daughters or at the beach surfing trying to find the perfect wave."

Michael Benson

USSF "Grassroots" License

This is my first year coaching with CCFC and I’m excited to be a part of a great team of professional coaches, players and parents. I’m grassroots certified through the USSF and actively working towards my D License. I bring years of experience of soccer growing up in the youth soccer system across the Upstate SC. I am passionate about the beautiful game and dedicated to developing young athletes. My focus is on technical growth, effort and instilling a sense of confidence - not just the scoreboard. I have prior experience coaching and teaching children through swim instruction, which has strengthened my ability to connect and motivate young players.

As the 2025 season approaches, I am excited to embark on my 17th year as a Youth Soccer Coach, having led nearly 100 teams across all age groups, from 5-year-old kindergartners to 18-year-old high school seniors. My coaching journey began at my alma mater, Northwest Missouri State University, where I founded and coached the women's soccer team.

This year marks my first as head coach with CCFC, and I am thrilled to be part of such a dedicated club comprised of players, parents, coaches, directors, and executive leadership.

My coaching experience is extensive and includes:

  • JIYSC (2023-2024)
  • Sporting Kansas City (2022-2023)
  • Nashville SC (2021-2022):
  • Chicago Fire SC (2015-2021)
  • American Youth Soccer Organization (2008-2015)
  • Number 1 Soccer Camps (2015-Present)
  • Caleb Patterson-Sewell Elite (2021)
  • MLS Soccer In The Community (2015-2021)
  • Youth Elite Soccer Camp (2015-2018)
  • Total Soccer Camp (2016-2018)
  • Happy Feet (2021)
  • Soccer Shots (2021)
  • Reboot FC (2012-Present)
  • Saint Francis DeSales High School (2015-2018)

In addition to my soccer coaching, I have experience in other sports, having served as a Summer Sports Camp Coordinator at Seton Montessori School (2017-2020) and Montessori Children Academy (2011-2015), as well as a Youth T-Ball Coach for the Park District of Oak Park, IL (2008-2011), and a Games and Activities Coordinator for the Boy Scouts of America (2008-2012).

Overall, my diverse background in coaching and sports management reflects a deep commitment to youth development and athletic excellence.
